Speaking to one of our council members, he was telling me about someone he knew who was excited about the holiday tree going up for the season. His response was, “And what holiday is that?”
The origins of the Christmas tree comes to us from the year 722 AD when St. Boniface (who is the patron saint of Germany) Christianized the Germanic tribes. The Germanic tribes worshipped the mighty oak tree and when Boniface felled a mighty oak they stood in awe as the oak crashed down upon a fir tree and it bent but sprung back up showing it was ever stronger than the oak! Boniface explained that the fir tree is a Christian tree because on the end of each branch it has three twigs which represent the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit!
Martin Luther is credited to bringing the Christmas tree……
